Yesterday (Sunday 13th August) saw Bletchley Town host their inaugural 2 wood singles day. With 15 men and 6 ladies turning up for the much awaited 10 am draw.
In the mens draw there were some really good close games including performance of the day Gareth Doyle in only his first competitive game took Gerry Smyth all the way to an extra end only to miss out on victory with Gerry's last bowl. After a good mornings bowling we got to the final four and in the semi final defending champion took out Gerry Smyth 15-12 and Dave West took out Dean Brookes 14-13 on an extra end.
The final between Dave and Dave was also a close affair with the match swinging one way then the other but in the end Westy picked up the 1 he needed on the 20th end to take his first Bletchley Town title
On to the ladies draw. With only 6 ladies in the draw Donna and Lesley were drawn straight in to the Semi final to await the winners of the 2 remaining quarter finals. Cheryl took on Marjorie and managed to win 16-7 and Pam took on Sue in an epic that went to yet another last end shoot out which Pam won 14-13
On to the Semi Finals, Pam was involved in another close game and pipped Donna 14-13 with the last bowl to reach the final. In the other semi final Cheryl took on Lesley, Cheryl took and early lead only to be pegged back at the mid way stage she managed to hold on to the slight lead to win 16-13.
So the final was another close game with Cheryl taking the lead early, and building up a slight advantage. Pam hung on to close the gap to 4 shots with 2 ends to play. With Pam holding 1 shot on the 20th end Cheryl didn't need to bowl her last wood and was crowned Ladies 2 wood champion 2017.
They day seemed to run smoothly in gorgeous weather so hopefully we can do the same next year
