Bletchley Beat Barton
Last night saw the Town take on Barton le Clay (Bedfordshire) in the London Southern Counties shield. This competition is played on a one rink at home and one rink away basis, on a very chilly night Alex Squires, Dave Clay, Rhys Lee and Gerry Smyth crossed the border into Bedfordshire to take on the Barton rink skipped by Colin Smith. Smyth’s Rink were always in control, at 10 ends they has built a slender 10-5 lead only to increase their lead to 15-7 at 15 ends, as the light started to fade the and the temperature started to drop they managed to hold on to that lead and cross the line winning 19-11. At home was Malcolm “pops” Pratt, Dave West, Malcolm Drage and Don Savage, we would like to congratulate Dave and Don for making their competitive debut for the club and a great start it was, like the away team they build up a slight lead being 5 shots up at 8 ends 4 shots up at 13 ends and 3 shots up at 16 ends. The Barton team skipped by Ron “Ronaldo” Worsnop fort back to take a 1 shot lead with 2 ends left with a sniff of victory within their sights the Town boys dug deep to pick up 5 shots on the last two ends to win 22-18.
Final score 41-29 to BTBC setting up a possible clash against either local rivals Bletchley St Martins or Oxford City and County.
