Ladies Top Club
On Sunday the Town Ladies made the short trip to Bletchley St Martins to take on their local rivals in the Bowls England Top Club Competition.
In the singles Donna Brookes picked up 3 3s in the first 4 ends to take a 9-1 lead she then she got closer to the finish line with the score at 14-4 she continued to drop 5 ends on the trot luckily she managed to keep them to single shots to make the score 14-9 Donna then kicked on to pick up 5 shots in the next 4 ends to get within touching distance of victory 19-10 she then dropped 2 shots before getting over the finish line 21-12
Town 1-0
Unlike the singles the pair of Cheryl Auburn and Lesley Throup got off to a slightly slower start trailing 15-6 at 12 ends before something clicked and they picked up 19 shots in the last 9 ends including a massive 6 on the 17th end to take the lead. They kept that lead and finished up winning by 5 25-20 a tremendous and vital comeback.
Town 2-0
The triple of Sue Brookes Kim Scott and Marjorie Rose were in a battle from the start but managed to build a good lead of 12-5 at 7 ends before the home team managed to start their own come back picking up 11 shots in the next 7 ends to make the score 13-16 to St Martins at 14 ends the town picked up a 1 and a 3 along with a tied end on the 17th end to take a 1 shot lead in to the last end unfortunately they could not hang on to that lead and dropped a 6 on the last end final score 17-22
Town 2-1
In the fours for the town we had Pam Benson, Jenny Windsor Rita Boreham and Ruth Drage, this game was nip and tuck for the first 7 ends with the away side trailing by 1 St Martins then started to extend their lead by picking up 2 3s and a 2 to make the score 11-16 at 14. Ends ends were traded there on in with St Martins leading 18-15 with one end to go. Team Drage knew with the state of the game as long as they didn’t drop a 6 on the last end they would be safely through to the next round and they did just that and dropped just 3 to finish up 15-21.
Final Score 78-75 to Bletchley Town this sets up home match against Aylesbury Town by the 4th June
