Top Weekend in the Top Club for Bletchley

Monday evening saw the turn of the men’s top club team to take to the green against Newport Pagnell in the 1st round of the Bowls England National Top Club competition.

In the 2 wood singles Malcolm “pops” Pratt was high in confidence after his recent win in the senior singles took on Mick Evans, early on scores were fairly tight with both players trading ends before pops went on a run of 6 ends without reply to increase his lead to 10-3 after 10 ends. Pops managed to keep his lead to go into the 19th end 13-8 up only needing one shot for victory, he managed to keep his nerve to get the one shot he needed and put the first point on the board for the town 14-8

Town 1-0

The Triple of Seymour Lee and Savage were in the lead from start to finish running away to a 17-2 lead at 10 ends before dropping 3 shots in the next 2 ends to make the score 17-5 at 12 they managed to pick up 10 shots in the next 3 ends including a 7 on the 14th end to make the score 27-5 at 15 ends before the Newport skip conceded the game with 3 ends to spare.

Town 2-0

Malcolm Drage followed pops on to the green to play the 4 wood singles after being down early on 2-5 Mal strung 4 ends together of 10 shots to take control 14-5. He then dropped a 2 to make the game 14-7 before another little run of ends to get within sight of the winning line 20-7 Abraham picked up a single before Mal could pick up the 1 shot he needed to close the game out 21-8

Town 3-0

In the pairs Alex Squires and Gerry Smyth renewed their successful partnership of 2016 to reunite the SAS. Another close one early on with both teams sharing the ends to leave the score 6 all at 6 ends. The SAS then flicked another gear to collect the next 4 ends with a sequence of 5,2,3 and another 3 to take a 19-6 lead after 10 ends. They lost 2 on the 11th end before another push to extend their lead to 28-9 they dropped another 1 on the 17th end before the concession came from the away side leaving the final score 28-10

Town 4-0

The Bletchley 4 of Dave Labrum, Dave West, Dave “The Game Changer” Clay and Dean Brookes did not have it their own way as Newport controlled the first 9 ends with a lead of 9-5. The Town then picked up a 3 and a 1 to draw level before getting a “game changing” 5 on the 12th end to lead 14-9 Newport did close the gap slightly to 14- 12 before a 2 and a 1 for Bletchley to lead 17-12 at 17 ends. As the other disciplines had all finished the Newport 4 called it a day giving the town the last point of the game

Town 5-0

A good evening for Bletchley with lots of supporters cheering on the good bowls and making the most of the Bar facilities.

In the next round we have a home tie against either Woburn Sands or Bradwell.
