Bletchley beat Burnham
On Sunday night our ladies top club team took on Burnham in the area final of the Bowls England National Top Club Competition. This was a rematch of last year’s final and our ladies were definitely after revenge.
The singles saw Donna Brookes take on Kay Dilkes. Donna took an early 8-3 lead before Dilkes picked up two 2s to bring the score back to 8-7. Donna increased her lead to 14-9 before dropping 2 on the 16th end to make the score 14-9. Donna then showed her class by picking up the remaining 7 shots she needed in the next 5 ends to run out victorious 21-12.

The pair of Cheryl Auburn and Lesley Throup took on county singles champion Julie Skelly and England legend Mary Price. The Town duo started well to build up a 12-6 lead at 11 ends they continued to increase their lead and by the 16th end the score was 18-8 they were never in danger of letting this lead slip and recorded the 2nd point for the town winning 21-12

Our triple of Sue Brookes, Kim Scott and Vicky Room were up against Jan Millard, Jean Grimshaw and crowd favourite Gilly Bunce. Our girls flew off to a 14-4 lead after 10 ends including picking up a 5 on the 6th end. The Burnham Girls then picked up 6 ends on the trot to make the score 14-11 after 15 ends. We then picked up a 1 to take a 4 shot lead with 2 ends to go, hoping this was enough to pick up the third point of the evening “The Bunce” had different ideas and picked up a 3 and a 2 to win the triples 16-15
Town 2-1
Rita Boreham, Jean Powell, Marjorie Rose and Ruth Drage took on the Burnham four skipped by Helen Copeland. This game was very close early on with the scores tied at 8 all at 9 ends before our girls took a 4 and a 3 to lead 15-8 at 11 ends they kept this lead to the end to run out 20-15 winners.
Final Score Town 3-1
This win crowns the Bletchley Ladies County Champions and will now take on another county by 30th July.
