County Finals

Yesterday saw the Men’s county finals at Chesham Bowls club

We had representatives in 3 disciplines, senior fours under 25 singles and pairs

First on was the senior fours this is the first year of the competition and with only the winners getting a place at Leamington there was all the play for. Peter Benson Mick Golder Malcolm Pratt and Gerry Smyth who took on 4 from the home club skipped by Keith Patrick, took and early 8-2 lead at 5 ends and increased the lead to 10 shot by 10 ends with the score at 14-4. By the time the we increased the lead to 18-5 at 13 end the home side admitted defeat and conceded the game. Congratulations to the Bletchley team who now take on a team from Herefordshire on the 8th August at the national championships.

After a successful morning next on was Jamie Seymour in the u25 singles against Tom McGuiness from Gerrards Cross. Jamie shot off to an early 7-2 lead and 11-4 lead before Tom started a comeback to make the score 11-7 the game was nip and tuck from here on in but with the score at 19-16 Jamie picked up the 2 he needed to clinch the title and book a place in next year’s Champion of Champions. Jamie now represents Buckinghamshire in the u25 singles and will face Lincolnshire’s qualifier at Leamington on Saturday 19th August.

In the last game of the day for Bletchley Malcolm “pops” Pratt and David Clay took on Duncan Gauld and David Simpson from Gerrards Cross. The GX boys started well taking an early 6-2 lead before BTBC brought it back to 6 all GX pushed on to increase the lead to 6 shots 13-7 with 6 ends to play but our boys were not going to give up they picked up 7 shots to lead 14-13 at 18 ends before Simpson bowled a massive bowl on the 19th end to leave GX holding 4 to lead 17-14 with 2 ends left. Bletchley picked up 1 on the 20th to trail by 2 with one end to play. Bletchley won the last end but could only pick up 1 to lose out by one shot 16-17. Dave and Pops are Buckinghamshire B at Leamington and will face Northumberland B in a prelim at Leamington on Sunday 27th at 2pm

A great effort from all the Bletchley players yesterday the crowd was certainly entertained all day
