Bletchley Win as Waddesdon Wobble

Sunday 6th August saw our men’s team travel to Chesham to take on Waddesdon in the semi-final of the Bucks Cup. This was a much anticipated clash and should turn out to be a cracking game with both sides having a number of Middleton Cup players and both sides well represented at Leamington in the National Championships this month.

Rink 2 saw Pete Benson Dave West and Don “The Destroyer” Savage take on a strong triple containing county triple winning skip and county singles finalist Andrew Litchfield, with Dave and Don’s former team mate from Chandos Park Paul Seymour skipping. The Bletchley boys knew they were going to be up against it but came out of the blocks faster than Usain Bolt and raced away to an 18-0 lead, after dropping a couple of singles they put their foot back on the gas to win 31-2 (14 ends).

On rink 3 Pops Taff and Mal Drage were up against two thirds of the County Triples Champions Keown Wilson and Derek Plater they were joined by skip Wayne Richardson, again Bletchley took an early lead including a 7 on the 4th end. Waddesdon did start to come back but with the scores at 15-8 in Bletchley’s favour another run of ends clinched the game 23-8 (14 ends)

Rink 4 the SAS (Squires and Smyth) were joined by Dave Labrum who were playing a triple skipped Trevor Room, this game was nip and tuck with Waddesdon taking an early lead before being pegged back to leave the score at 10-11 (11 ends) to Waddesdon.

Rink 5 we had newly crowned u25 singles champion Jamie Seymour Mick Golder and Dean Brookes against Tony Osbourne’s triple again like rink 4 this was very close throughout with the lead changing hands constantly with the scores at 10-12 to Waddesdon Brookes had a shot to ditch the jack for 7 but just missed to leave Waddesdon with 4 shots to leave the score 16-10 (15 ends)

As you may have guessed the Waddesdon captain conceded the game with still 18 ends on the cards which puts us in the Bucks Cup Final on the 10th September against Gerrards Cross at Iver Heath.
