Sensational Sunday.

Yesterday could have been either a bad day or a good day for the Town as our men’s team returned to competitive action in the National Top Club against Wolverton Park in the morning and National Club Two Fours at Chandos Park in the evening.

Top Club.

The morning didn’t get off to the best of starts as a sink hole at the end of the A5 and a number of road closures caused chaos in Milton Keynes meaning Don Savage ended up in Northampton and could not get to Wolverton before we had to start. This was a chance for reserve Gareth Doyle could make his Top Club debut.

On to the bowls …………

Alex “5am” Squires took to the green in the 2 bowl singles, after dropping a 2 on the first end Alex found his range to run away to a 17-4 win and get the first point on the board for the Town. 1-0

In the Triples we needed a reshuffle before the game so Gareth Digger Doyle came in to lead while President Pete Benson moved up to two and Taff skipped a 4 and a 5 early on gave them a comfortable lead and they never looked back comfortably winning 25-9 to make the score 2-0

Mal Drage took on young gun Nathan Nimmo in the singles this game was a very high standard and nip and tuck all the way. Nimmo finally got over the line 21-17 to close the deficit to 2-1

Our four of West, Golder, Clay and Smyth got off to a good lead with and expert display of jack casting from West proved vital as the front end peppered the jack they were never in trouble and won 28-10 the secured victory 3-1

The pair of Pops and Dean Brookes were always in front and never looked in danger of losing until they went into the last end only 3 up. The last end built up well and didn’t look like Wolverton would get a draw or win and in the end Bletchley dropped a 2 to win 21-20 and to make the final score 4-1 to the Town.

We now play Bradwell away in the second round.

After a drink and a bite to eat in Wetherspoon’s the team made the 20 minute journey to Chandos Park in Buckingham, this was a home coming for Seymour West and Savage who left the club on a free transfer only last year.

Club Two Fours

Our rink of Jamie “Stretch” Seymour, Dave “Westy Spice” West, Rhys “Taffy Spice" Lee and Don “Sat Nav” Savage got off to a good 6-0 lead before being pegged back to 6 all they increased the lead again and never looked back winning 19-10

Our other rink of Squires, Clay, Drage and Brookes absolutely flew out of the blocks to lead 13-1 after not many ends, after some more bowling brilliance they increased the lead to 19-1 then 25-2 before Chandos waived the white flag when the score was 32-2.

All in all a convincing win and The Town now face St Martins at home in the next round

Well done to the selectors all the players, reserves and spectators who made it an enjoyable, eventful, interesting and most importantly a successful day.
