A massive congratulations to Dave Labrum and Mal Drage for regaining the over 55 Bowls England National Pairs Championship beating Herefordshire in the final 22-15.
They started their campaign with a convincing 17-4 win over Dorset on Friday afternoon, after an early night and lots of rest they came back to play Middlesex another good performance from the lads to record a 10 shot win 21-11. This victory put them into the Quarter Final where they would play local neighbours Northamptonshire. After going behind early on they pushed hard to take the lead and eventually ran out winners 22-14.
On to Sunday morning and finals day. We were drawn against Hertfordshire and again after a slightly shaky start the boys pushed from 3-8 down to 13-9 up in a matter of ends. Bletchley hung on to the lead to clinch a final spot winning 16-13.
Wow a second final in 3 year... A massive achievement in anyones book but fingers crossed they can bring the trophy home they won in 2017
With the crowds building and the anticipation at breaking point the final started. Again we started slowly going behind 4-10 at 7 ends before picking up 13 shots in 5 ends to take a 19-11 shot lead at 14 ends. With the score at 20-14 at 16 ends the boys were sitting in a fairly comfortable position before Mal found himself 6 down with 1 bowl left. Everyones fingers were crossed as Mal strode back to the mat!! He bowls probably the bowl of the final cutting the 6 down to 1. PHEW!!!!!! So we are 5 up playing the last end which was closed out quite comfortably and we picked up a 2 to win 22-15.
