Shannon Maughan - National 2 Bowl Singles Runner Up


We would like to congratulate Shannon for reaching the Final of the Bowls England National 2 Bowl Singles.


Shannon the Bucks County 2 bowl champion headed to Victoria Park with dreams of becoming the National Champion, and how close she came..


In Round 1 she took on Georgie Marwood from Suffolk, Shannon was always in control and recorded a 15-8 victory


Round 2 was a local derby against Debbie Roe from Bedfordshire, Shannon played some remarkable bowls and won 18-5





In Round 3, she faced tough competition against England International and National 4 Bowl champion Stef Branfield from Somerset. Initially, she fell behind and found herself in a sticky situation, trailing 5-12 at 11 ends. However, she remained composed and strung together a series of successful ends. Despite dropping just one more shot, she managed to secure a victory with a final score of 17-13.


In the Quarter Final, Shannon faced a tough opponent, Sian Honnor (Kent), who is a 2022 Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist and has won multiple national titles. Despite a slow start, with Shannon trailing 5-10 after 12 ends, she didn't give up. Showing her determination, Shannon, now nicknamed "The Cannon," fought back with a series of powerful shots, winning the majority of the last few ends. In the end, Shannon emerged victorious with a score of 15-12.





In the Semi Final, Shannon faced off against Rebecca Willgress, an experienced England International and former world indoor singles champion from Norfolk. Shannon started off by dropping a 2 on the first end, but quickly turned the game around. She won the next 10 ends, taking a commanding lead of 13-2 at 11 ends. With her focus on the game, Shannon secured her spot in the Final. Demonstrating her class and skill, she closed out the game with a final score of 15-6.


In the third game of the day and the National Final, Shannon faced off against England International Laura Holden from Somerset. Shannon started off slowly, trailing 5-10 after 11 ends. However, the fans remained confident, knowing that Shannon has come back from similar situations before. Shannon managed to close the gap to 9-12 at the 15th end. Despite closely contested ends, Laura ultimately emerged victorious with a 17-10 win, securing the title.


Congratulations to Laura for winning but we are overwhelmingly proud of Shannon's achievement
